This listening to the country station is really starting to pay off. All of the life lessons that I learn from it like that my baby should love me just the way that I am, life isn't always beautiful, size matters, etc. would be more than enough, but today it has offered me even more than that. I called in today and won something.
I think I might be a dork.

Last weekend was nice having my brother and sister in town. Friday afternoon Mike, Dad, and I went fishing. I caught the only fish. It wasn't a keeper, but we won't dwell on that small detail. Jenny and her Sam got to town Friday evening and I am very happy to see that Jen has a little tummy. Sami and I made her some baby sleeper things for mother's day that say "my aunties love me" and "I love my aunties", stuff like that. That poor baby is going to be the target of a lot of those projects for the next few years. The sleepers, though, turned out to be very cute. We didn't do a whole lot the rest of the weekend- went golfing, got together with all of the other Schaafs for mother's day, ate a lot as usual. Jen & her Sam left on Monday to go back to Mpls, Mike left on Tues to go to work at a golf course in the Duluth area. And now I am going to start looking for jobs for both Jen & Sam that are just so good that they can't pass them up so they can move back here and I can quit my job and babysit my niece full-time.

My little brother and big sister (in age, that is. In actual physical stature: big brother and little sister. Well, Jen will only be little for a while yet, she'll be huge soon!) Anyway, sorry, lost my train of thought. They are coming to town. Mike's done with school for the semester so he has made his way up from New Mexico to ND on his way to northern MN to work for the summer. And Jen and her baby daddy Sam are here for the weekend. I am taking off early this afternoon to go fishing with Mike and Dad and then the rest of the weekend doing whatever. It's always nice to hang out with them since they usually get all of my jokes. I've been told that my sense of humor is slightly off. I disagree, however, because my brother and sisters have basically the exact same sense of humor so I think that should validate my dumb jokes in some way. So there. That means that my jokes aren't dumb, but in fact they are so highly sophisticated that it takes a Schaaf to understand them. So there.
Regardless, I am excited that they will be here this weekend. And also very excited about leaving work early.

You know how there are things that happen in your life that you thought only happened in cartoons or in movies? Well, I had one of those yesterday. I was at work, and I go trucking into the restroom like normal (mind you, I had just followed our cleaning lady out of our office so I knew she had just finished cleaning the bathrooms). I took 1 step and before I knew it I was on a ride. I was slipping and sliding on the freshly cleaned (read: wet) floor just like Harry from Home Alone as he was trying to break into Kevin McCallister’s house through the basement door. Well, I eventually met the same fate as Harry- down I went. Oopsie. And now after banging my shin HARD on the stall door and landing like Sam trying to land a jump on my backside I am more sore than after a day of snowboarding. After I realized that nothing was broken, though, I had to giggle.

I would like to make a public service announcement. Here it is:
If I ever get old and have kids and drive a minivan I swear I will still use my blinkers.
If I ever get really old and drive around in a Buick I will try to overcome that fact and still watch where I’m going and still use my blinkers. Even if the Buick has gold trim. I promise.
If I drive a Cadillac I do not plan on paying attention to anything, and in addition I will probably drive right in the middle of the road and turn my blinker on as soon as I leave the driveway in case I have to make an eventual left.
You're welcome.

Samth's birthday / Jason thinks he's great |

First of all, today is my little sister's birthday. So happy birthday punk. She is 16 today, so yes, she is a punk. She is, however, the apple of my parents' eye and my favorite of all of my little sisters.
Second of all, Jason emailed me earlier today and told me that I should blog about how awesome he is. (You might want to read that sentence twice. And keep in mind- I didn't make it up.) In his defense, he probably needs it after the Rip on Jason Day that was last Friday (check out the comments on his site). He is awesome, but I don't know how much gushing is really warranted. Afterall, the only things he has said about how great I am are a couple of sentences here and there- no where near adequate to fully express the sheer magnitude of my greatness. Oh, AND he called his friends jerks for them basically telling him to appreciate me (I might have paraphrased that idea).
But, sometimes he is kinda swell I suppose. He did give me the best room in the house. Well, it's virtually the best room of any rooms in all of the houses in the whole world, so that's pretty good. He is now, however, trying to reclaim part of it after I did all of the work- the painting and cleaning and organizing and vacuuming of boxelder bugs. So, now he's kinda half swell, but still also half poophead. He's trying to ruin the perfect room that I had going. I had it all masterfully organized into separate stations- painting station, scrapbooking station, sewing station, and computer work station. Not to mention, the lounge area complete with tv and comfy furniture. Yes, I might be a dork but I will be a dork hanging out in my own arts and crafts eden.
I am also still very excited about being an aunt.

I just found out yesterday- I'm going to be an aunt!!! And I am very, very excited about that! So, way to go Sami, if I were you I might have waited until I was 16 to start in on the babies, but oh well. Kidding. My (older) sister Jen and Her Sam (not to be confused with Our Sam, my little sister) are having a baby!! I am not allowed to tell anyone yet, however, so this post will have been published awhile after I actually found out. My secret-keeping abilities leave something to be desired, so hopefully I don't let it slip before I'm officially allowed. Okay, well I already did let it slip, but I had to tell Michelle!
So- big gigantic congratulations to Jen & Sam!!!!
I am now going to start a Jenny-and-Sam-have-to-move-to-North-Dakota petition so I can see little Jenny Jr all the time.

I have something that I would really, really, really like to say something about, but I don't have permission yet. So I'll have to wait until I get the go-ahead. Needless to say, I am very excited about this.
So, I guess I'll attempt to distract myself- I bought a new laptop the other day and I was very disappointed in Best Buy because I had bought 1GB extra RAM to have them install for a total of 1.5GB, but when I picked it up I found a 256mb stick in the box. I was slightly angry since they didn't mention that they had to take this out and now I wasn't at what I thought was my computer's maximum of 1.5GB. Anyway, I first called the store and got some condescending jerk who asked me why I even needed that much anyway. I bet he wouldn't have asked that if I were a guy. I had done a lot of research and I wanted a computer with the specs I expected it to have. So I took it back in and talked to a manager and he immediately said that he would take care of it. And he did. When I picked it up this time they told me that they had actually put in a total of 2GB. So, I am very happy with the Best Buy people today. Way to go Best Buy.
Oh, and Michelle and I made her a page on theknot.com last night, so check that out. I am heading out to Fargo with her today to hang out with her for the weekend since someone is going to be out of town AGAIN.

So occasionally I like to try to broaden my cultural horizons. Sometimes that entails activities like ordering a barbeque cheeseburger instead of a regular cheeseburger, or reading say the Fargo Forum online instead of the Mpls Star Tribune, or maybe switching from watching just regular tv to watching Gilmore Girls on DVD (this I only get to do, of course, when Jason is not home). So what is my newest project you ask? Well, instead of listening to 97.5- the r&b/pop/top-40ish radio station all day long at work, I have decided to tune in to KQDY- the country station. Yes, you read that correctly. I, who lived in the country music capital of the world and still wasn't compelled to listen to country music even a little bit, who if my friends had it on their car radio when I got in would immediately change the station, have now actually started to kind of like it. My opinion is that it is like listening short stories all day long, and I'm finding that aspect pretty entertaining. So, since I have outgrown story time with mom and dad I have found country music to be a fabulous substitute and I would highly recommend it to everyone.

I applaud you Paul Matthews. I like this attacking from all sides stuff. Unfortunately I don't think it will work. And by unfortunately I mean unfortunate for Jason because I am perfect.
