Paul's post By kristys on 2/24/2006 2:57 PM

I applaud you Paul Matthews. I like this attacking from all sides stuff. Unfortunately I don't think it will work. And by unfortunately I mean unfortunate for Jason because I am perfect.

points for Jsn By kristys on 2/15/2006 7:42 AM

I am very happy to say Jason is finally catching on. If any of you remember last Valentines Day it was marred by the fact that Jason didn't get me a card. That's all I had wanted, and he didn't get me one. He did of course get me flowers and take me out to dinner, but no card. This year, though, he got me a perfect card and even wrote some nice stuff in it in addition to flowers and dinner. So, a little redemption for Jason, way to go. And just so you don't think I'm the kind of person who thinks he should do all this stuff for me and I don't have to do anything- he got 3 paintings from me for his Valentines Day gift. So there.

I think I deserved all of that and much much more, though, because as you know, it is the middle of February, and that means we have been in full basketball swing for nearly 6 months. SIX MONTHS! Six months of not having a boyfriend is pretty much what it amounts to. This is what I have decided: basketball does not belong in February! Like I have told him, though, I don't mind the games, I even kind of like watching them minus a couple of ugly ones when all I wanted to do was get up and walk out of the gym. What I don't like is him not being home EVER. Practice every day, away games, boo to all of that. Boo I say.

Mr & Mrs Michelle York By kristys on 2/11/2006 10:01 AM

yes. I do realize that Michelle and I are not the ones getting marriedWell, it finally happened, my best friend since 7th grade soccer is getting married! Michelle and Kenny got engaged on Michelle's birthday on Thursday, so CONGRATULATIONS to them. She asked me to be maid of honor, which is no surprise, but I am very excited about that too. I always thought I would be her matron of honor, but I've hit a little impediment as far as that goes. I'm not going to say exactly what that impediment is but it rhymes with Jason is a poophead. That's fine, though, I'll just continue to live vicariously through all of my friends.

But anyway... : )  I am very sad that since Michelle now lives in Fargo we weren't able to go dress shopping immediately after it happened like we were supposed to. It's a good thing she'll be home this weekend, so we'll get plenty of shopping in then. She cannot pick out a dress without me there. Did you hear that Michelle?!?

Here's a pic of the happy couple. Congratulations again!

delorean = black hole By kristys on 1/27/2006 12:20 PM

One of the big stories in the news today:

Black hole puts dent in space-time

Scientists deduce its existence from X-ray frequencies

the real question here is what are the implications of these findings? What I would like to infer as the only possible conclusion is that it would indeed be possible for Marty McFly to travel back (and forward) in time. I always knew it was a plausible theory. Doc will be so happy.

Due to its sheer brilliance, these guys deserve credit for their lego creation, so here is the link to the site that I got that pic from

Big Sky trip By kristys on 1/26/2006 11:50 AM

Well, my prediction was correct, no one had to go to the emergency room. Afterall, we're not amateurs....

The trip was great. They had the best snow we've seen in years with tons of powder. Everyone is progressing nicely, although I still wasn't able to talk them into snowboarding down from neither the tram nor the challenger chair. Not for lack of trying, though. Maybe next year. I suppose that might be best considering some of the spills they took on the other runs. One of the highlights was Jen running into a tree, falling, getting up, and then finishing off with a summersault. Good stuff.

We decided to ride all 3 days at Big Sky so we still haven't had a chance to check out Moonlight Basin. Oh well, Big Sky deserved at least 3 days this year. The snow was that great.

I will get some of the pictures posted soon.

my new favorite quote By kristys on 1/26/2006 11:15 AM

Russ again wins the award for the most inadvertently funny person I've ever met with this statement:

"there were two girls in our high school who got bred"

In case it's not obvious, Russ spends a little more time with cows than he does with humans.

Snowboarding trip By kristys on 1/11/2006 12:45 PM

Big Sky 2005Well it's the middle of January- and you know what that means- Schaaf Annual Big Sky Trip. I think now it can officially be called the snowboarding trip since we have all converted for the most part. Anyway- Jin's flying in tonight, then we're taking off in the morning. We'll ride at Big Sky for a couple days then hopefully check out Moonlight Basin on Sunday which will be a first for us. Right now they're officially sitting with 75 inches at the top of the mountain (and unofficially I've heard up to another foot or so more than that), they've replaced the slowest triple chair with a high-speed quad, and I get 3 days off of work. What more can you ask for? Well, maybe one more thing- that my wussy sisters keep up a little bit better. Just kidding :) After a number of painful years of learning, everyone is pretty decent now, which is great. Can't wait!

Oh, and I guarantee no one will end up in the emergency room this time!

happy birthday Christmas Carol By kristys on 12/23/2005 3:15 PM

happy birthday mom.GIFSunday is my mom's birthday so I should maybe wish her a happy birthday also. Her name is Carol and she was born on Christmas, yet when I ask my Grandma if she named her Carol because of the Christmas connotations she says she doesn't know. Maybe that's because she doesn't want to put any singing-related pressure on my mom. And rightly so, with our voices like angels- my family.

p.s. I know my drawings are awfully sophisticated today due to the great software that I have at my disposal right now. You're welcome.

Merry Christmas Eve Eve By kristys on 12/23/2005 11:35 AM

So, today is Christmas Eve Eve, and I am one of the few lone soldiers here today. Due to this and the fact that no one should be conducting any sort of business on a quasi-holiday like today my excitement so far has been pretty limited. And by limited I mean spilling part of my latte on my keyboard and trying to clean it up has been the extent of the excitement. So, I figured, since not much is going on and we didn't send out a Christmas card/letter that I would post one even though I have absolutely nothing interesting to say.

We're not married nor anywhere near getting married so nothing interesting there, we don't have any kids so no cute kiddie anecdotes to add, we got a dog whom I think Jason might like more than me, we moved into the new house and now the fun there is taking bets on how long it will take Jason's brother to clean up after himself which is just an absolute hoot. We are at the midway point in the basketball season and at holiday break time, so Jason and I have actually seen each other for at least a good 5 hours this week. The season has gone by pretty quickly this year, which I am grateful for, because the quicker basketball is done the quicker I get my boyfriend back and the quicker we can get to golf and camping season. This previous summer I prided myself on turning Jason into a camper. He, for some reason, thought it wasn't much fun, but when I showed him the Schaaf style of camping which is comprised of eating, napping, and sitting around reading books he warmed up to the idea. As far as golf has gone he has made huge strides there too. He is slowly being molded into an acceptable match for yours truly. Now if he could only snowboard without incident. :)

That's it in a nutshell. Merry Christmas. Peace, joy, presents, cookies...

Ride like a...... bobblehead doll?? By kristys on 12/21/2005 9:33 AM

Our little trip to SD this weekend ended up being a lot more exciting than expected in some capacities and a lot less than expected in others. Let's start with the a lot less part- we didn't see any ghosts. Boo. The Bullock let me down. Although, I didn't really get to explore as much as I would have liked because someone kept whining to go back to the room. We heard a few pretty interesting stories and saw some pictures, but didn't see anything paranormal for ourselves (well, besides the paranormal activity that is Jason's behavior.) So staying at the Bullock was not too terribly eventful, just kind of nice- darn it.

Now let me regress a bit to earlier that day. We made our way down to Terry Peak and everything started out fine. Jason had his lesson right away so I made a few runs, then he got done with his lesson and I convinced him to venture away from the beginner area. He fell quite a bit at first, but then started looking like he was catching on. Well, he might have been catching on a little bit too well on the going fast part and not catching on quite well enough on the stopping part. At the very end of our third run in the big kids area he was going pretty fast, caught his toe edge and then launched himself headfirst and landed squarely on his noggin. Luckily I had made him wear a helmet. I came over to him and asked if he was okay- he didn't answer right away so I figured I'd give him a minute and then tell him to get up so we could give it another go. Not so much. We ended up taking a little break and finally, after he wasn't able to just shake it off, we went to visit the ski patrol who told us to go to the hospital. So, next step on our adventure: the Deadwood-Lead Emergency Room. Yippee! Now, this may very well all be my fault. First of all, I was the one who made him go snowboarding. Second I might have jinxed him with my "pretty decent odds" comment. Anyway, he ended up with a mild concussion and a very sore shoulder. The important thing, ...
